Uncharted movie – Things go from bad to worse

Posted: December 1, 2010 by Tony Polanco in PIECE OF MIND

This will be a short rant because if I dwell on it for too long I might break something. Those rumors about the Uncharted live action movie that I talked about a few weeks ago are (sadly) true. Director David O. Russell has decided to completely change (and ruin) what Uncharted is all about.

In Russell’s own words:

“This idea really turns me on that there’s a family that’s a force to be reckoned with in the world of international art and antiquities … [a family] that deals with heads of state and heads of museums and metes out justice,”

Somebody please give me a gun so that I can blow my brains out. Is Russell completely out of his mind? What the hell does the Uncharted series have to do with a family of globe trotting antiques dealers? And what kind of justice are they talking about here? Justice for what? I wish we had justice for people who have to sit through horrible video game movie adaptations.

“We’ll have the family dynamic, which we’ve done in a couple of movies now,” he said. “And then you take that and put it on the bigger, more muscular stage of an international action picture, but also put all the character stuff in it. That’s a really cool idea to me.”

To you, Mr Russell but not to the millions of fans of the Uncharted series. This movie will be terrible and I hope it bombs just as badly as Max Payne did. I’d cut, paste and post what Marky Mark had to say about this but I’m mad enough as it is without having to quote his idiotic words.

I’m sorry about the rant but the Uncharted series is one of my favorites and it is a shame what will be done to it by people who have no clue whatsoever on how to stay true to the spirit of an adaptation. David Russell is now on my sh!t list. He can join Marky Mark who has been on the list ever since his stupid funky bunch days. I’m glad that I’m not a journalist because reporting objectively about this story would be almost impossible.

Oh and one last thing since I was talking about journalists. To the guy who wrote the original article, Steven Zeitchik; dude what Uncharted fans have YOU been talking to? No one that I know was intrigued when they found out that David Russell was going to direct the Uncharted movie. Most of their replies where the same as mine “Who is that?”. The guy doesn’t exactly direct movies that most video game fans would watch. Steven also said that fans want this movie out fast. I don’t want the movie out at all! Cancel the project and start from scratch.

I need a drink…
