The new face of Lara Croft

This pretty lady before you is the new and improved Lara Croft. There has been talk of a Tomb Raider reboot in the works and in the January issue of Game informer magazine we will find out more details about it. Hit the jump to read about what we know so far.

The Tomb Raider franchise has been stuck in a rut for most of it’s life. While the first game was an amazing genre defining action adventure game that paved the way for countless others, subsequent sequels did nothing to move the franchise forward. There was a bit of a resurgence with 2006’s Tomb Raider: Legend and 2008’s Underworld but they were not enough to bring the franchise back to it’s former glory.

Well now we have the first details about the upcoming game. It’s going to be an origin story that focuses on Miss Crofts very first adventure.

‘After a brutal storm destroys the boat she was travelling on, a frightened young woman is left washed ashore on an unknown beach.  On her own but not alone she has only one goal, to survive’

It seems like this game will be more gritty than the others. I wonder what sort of things Lara is going to have to do to survive? What new gameplay elements will be introduced? Very interesting indeed.

“Forget everything you knew about TOMB RAIDER, we are exploring things that have never been done before in this game,” saidDarrell Gallagher, Head of  Studio, Crystal Dynamics. “This is an origins story that creates Lara Croft and takes her on a character defining journey like no other.”

I really hope that this game finally brings Lara to the current generation systems like she deserves. Like I said before, Tomb Raider is the game that many others have taken inspiration from and it’s been sad to see it dwell in mediocrity for so long. I’m looking forward to this new title and I’ll post news as it comes out.
