The day has finally arrived my friends. The first trailer for Grand theft auto V is here!
Check out the trailer now and I’ll give you my two cents after you have seen the awesomeness.
Amazing no? GTAV is taking us back to San Andreas. Like GTAIV’s Liberty city which originally appeared in GTAIII, GTAV’s San Andreas has been completely redone from the ground up. The same counties from San Andreas appear to be present in this one but it all appears so much more realistic and detailed. The game world looks absolutely stunning. It looks as good as Read dead redemption but set in a modern city. RDR ran on the same engine that GTAIV did so it’s incredible to see how the engine has evolved in just a few short games.
There is a mysterious protagonist narrating and we see a few shots of him in the trailer. Some have speculated that this is none other than Grand theft auto: Vice City’s Tommy Vercetti however I have to disagree. Tommy would be pushing 70 at least if he was still alive and the “main” character of this new game looks to be 50 at the oldest. Also the narrator sounds nothing like Ray Liotta so again, I don’t think it’s Tommy.
GTAV is set in modern times and it appears that America’s current economic hardships will be present in the game. You can see stores selling things at 70% off, a home being foreclosed and a homeless man begging for cash on the streets. It also seems that if you don’t want to look at all of this misery that you can take to the skies and escape it all with several aircraft. GTAIV only had helicopters to pilot but in this trailer alone we see crop dusters, private jets and even a military jet flying around. Perhaps the over the top situations that you could get yourself into with these aircraft will make a return as well. This sort of humor might be a good counter balance to the seriousness of a failing economy.
There is so much more that can be said about this trailer but we’ll end it here today. Rockstar will no doubt release more GTAV trailers and we will get a fuller picture of what to expect. For now just do what I’ve been doing all day and rewatch this trailer until your eyes dry.
Grand theft auto V will be released sometime in 2012.
