Did you think you would have trouble unlocking trophies with used Vita games? Most likely not since this has NEVER been a problem for PS3 or Xbox 360.

But Vita is a new portable console with a new set of rules.

It appears Sony is trying a new method to deter people from buying pre-owned games by disabling trophy unlocks.

When you boot up a pre-owned Vita game you’ll receive the following message

“Cannot earn trophies in this application. Only the first player to use an application can earn trophies. To earn trophies, you must link the Sony Entertainment Network account of the first player to use this application with the PS Vita system.”

But have no fear, all is not lost. The good folks at pocket Gamer have figured out a work around that will get your trophies unlocking in no time.
The steps are as follows:

– Click “No” when you get the warning message telling you
that you can’t earn Trophies with the current application.

– Touch and hold the Vita home screen until you can rearrange icons. Press the “…” bubble attached to the icon of the game you want to play. Choose to format the card, which will wipe the data on it.

– If you get the message warning you that the data shall be deleted, you should be golden. Boot up the game and it’ll now be tethered to your account.
