Heavy ran developers show off amazing new facial performance tech

Anyone who has played L.A. Noire knows that it was a game with perhaps the best facial animation technology to date.  Well…everyone except Heavy rain creator, David Cage.  Shortly before the release of L.A. Noire, Cage said that while the technology was impressive, that he was working on something that would blow it away.  Now we can see what he was talking about.

This tech demo called “Kara”, proves that Mister Cage wasn’t just talking out of his rear end and that he had every right to boast about his company’s (Quantic dream) way of capturing performances.  “Kara” is running off the Playstation 3 hardware and is about an android who is more than meets the eye.  The facial expressions are very lifelike and provoke genuine emotion from the viewer.  If this is what Quantic dream’s new performance capture technology can do then I think we can look forward to a bright future for digital acting.
