There’s been a lot of post release dlc for coolstufftheblog’s 2011 game of the year, Batman: Arkham City but now we have one that we can actually care about. Not just another boring combat challenge pack, “Harley Quinn’s revenge” is (thankfully) a single player only dlc that lets you play as the caped crusader and his sidekick pal Robin as they attempt to stop Harley Quinn from getting her (as the title says) revenge.
This adventure takes place shortly after the shocking finale of Arkham City. I won’t spoil it here but suffice it to say that Harley is none too pleased with the B-Man and is looking for some vengeance. Though this is a dlc, none of the great characterization from the original game is lost here and the actors do a great job of convening how the ending to Arkham city affects not just Quinn but Batman himself. Harley may be bat-sh*t crazy (excuse the bad bat-pun) but I felt genuinely sorry for her as she was dealing with her pain. Tara Strong may not be the original Harley Quinn we remember from the animated series of the 90s but she is every bit as excellent at bringing her to life.
Gameplay wise it’s the same bat-tune. Not that that is a bad thing mind you. You’ll use gadgets, rely on your detective skills and oh yeah, beat the living snot out of countless hired goons as you progress through the story. This tale takes place inside the steelworks factory exclusively. If you want to explore the city you’re out of luck. Playing as Robin brings some new elements to the game like a nifty shield that can deflect bullets but besides that, Robin takes after his mentor and fights almost exactly like him.
Considering that this is a dlc, don’t expect it to be very long. If you play it as intended, it should last about two hours. You can make the game last longer by getting the achievements/trophies. They aren’t very difficult to unlock and almost all have you doing some Robin-centric gadget tricks. There are also 30 Harley balloons scattered throughout the steelworks for you collecting types out there.
“Harley Quinn’s revenge” is a thoroughly enjoyable dlc. If you played and loved Batman: Arkham City as much as we did then there really is no excuse to pass it up.
- It’s an extension to Batman: Arkham city
- …yeah it’s more Batman. No need to say anything else here
- Short length of dlc
