You may officially go crazy now…because Uncharted 3 is coming!
Entertainment weekly posted an article today where they talked about the upcoming Playstation 3 exclusive and sequel to 2009’s best game, Uncharted 2: Among thieves. Naughty dog studios will take Nathan Drake to the Arabian peninsula where he will be searching for the legendary lost city of Iram in the Rub’ al Khali desert. Uncharted 2 had the best snow ever created in a video game so you can probably expect the best sand you’ve ever seen this time around.
The game will be more focused on Nathan’s personal life and with his relationship with Sully from the last two games. Nate is always following in the footsteps of famous historical figures (Uncharted 1 had him searching for Sir Francis Drake’s golden city of El Dorado and Uncharted 2 had him trying to figure out the mystery behind the disappearance of Marco Polo’s fleet and the city of Shambhala) and this time he will be using T.E. Lawrence’s research from his days as an archeologist to find the fabled city which has been described as “the Atlantis of the desert”.
The Naughty dog team was very excited to take on the challenges of creating a realistic looking desert environment. You may think that a desert is just sand but there are a lot of interesting things happening in a desert like shifting sands, sun glare, sand storms, and that heat distortion effect. This will make for a very interesting looking game for sure. I wonder if characters will sweat too.
As far as gameplay is concerned, there will be some new additions. You will be able to backward climb and you will be able to fight multiple baddies at once. The melee combat in Uncharted 2 was a lot of fun so I personally can’t wait to take on a bunch of guys at once. I know it’s not wise to bring fists to a gun fight but damn if it isn’t a blast to pulverize your foes with your fists. Pugilism for the win! Naughty dog also wants to make the multiplayer on par with the multiplayer of games like Call of duty and Halo.
There was no release date revealed but if we can go by the last two games then Uncharted 3: Drake’s deception should hit stores in November of 2011. Expect a trailer for the game on the Spike Video Game Awards show this weekend.
